Position Summary

The part time Clerk performs a variety of tasks associated with training, inputting paperwork into the computer for training and personnel and filing various other paperwork as assigned by the supervisor.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Receives, sorts and files training requests and paperwork associated with training requests.
  • Files, sorts, maintains and scans paperwork associated with personnel files.
  • Assists the training supervisor with scheduling and maintaining all training for the Sheriff's Office.
  • Assists personnel supervisor with scanning and filing paperwork associated in accordance with State Laws.
  • Answer training requests from other agencies and maintains a log for training coordinator.
  • Works with background investigators as needed
  • Maintain the integrity, professionalism, values and goals of the Department by assuring that all rules and regulation are followed, and that accountability and public trust is maintained
  • Assists training personnel with logging class attendees in accordance with TCOLE guidelines
  • Assists with cleaning and maintaining the training room after classes are complete.
  • Assists training personnel with various paperwork as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Answer multiple phone lines and screen calls that come into the Sheriff's Office as needed and any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Regular attendance and timeliness are required

EDUCATION:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED

SKILLS ~ EXPERIENCE:

  • Required:
  • Current and valid TX driver's license and a safe driving record
  • Must be twenty-one years of age on /or before date of hire
  • Must maintain personal loyalty to the Sheriff
  • General skill in operating standard office equipment such as personal computers, calculators, and telephones
  • Maintains good interpersonal relations with the public, other employees, and supervisors
  • General knowledge of basic hardware and software and uses of a variety of different computer operating systems such as Microsoft Office Work, Excel, Outlook
  • Must have the ability to retain detailed information, as well as take notes on how procedures are done
  • Keen attention to detail; careful and accurate data entry
  • Must have experience in the use of photographic material
  • Must be able to copy, view, and distribute different forms of digital media.
  • Must be able to work well within a team environment and high stress situations
  • Ability to accurately sort, file, and retrieve material using alphabetical, numerical, or chronological systems

Preferred:

  • Background in training
  • Working knowledge of Federal/State laws associated with training and personnel
  • Knowledge of scanning, inputting and data entry
  • 2 years' work experience in a law enforcement or related field

Disqualifiers:

  • Undesirable character or reputation
  • A felony conviction or felony deferred adjudication against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States
  • Conviction, including court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense above the grade of Class B Misdemeanor, or a Class B Misdemeanor within the last ten (10) years
  • Arrested for DWI or DUI in the past ten (10) years
  • Currently under indictment for any criminal offense
  • Sold or manufactured any illegal drugs
  • Conviction, guilty plea, or probation for any family violence offense
  • Discharge from any military service under less than honorable conditions, or any other characterizations of service indicating bad character

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Split between indoor activity and outdoor activity. Significant contact with the public, media, persons accused or convicted of crimes, law enforcement personnel, and courthouse personnel.

PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear
  • The employee frequently is required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; use hands to find, handle, or feel objects, reach with hands and arms; stoop and kneel
  • Must be able to safely lift 20 lbs.

HOURS / SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Works less than 30 hours per week.
