Summary:Vighter is recruiting Licensed Vocational Nurses to support
the Department of Health and Human Services at State Hospitals,
State Supported Living Centers, and State Psychiatric Centers
throughout Texas. Nurses may serve in temporary, short-term, and
long-term positions depending on the needs of the Health and Human
Services Commission (HHSC) facility. Vighter is contracted to
provide staffing services to HHSC and receives requests for nurses
periodically. When Vighter receives a request from the State of
Texas our recruiters contact candidates in our database to confirm
availability, willingness, and interest in the position. Candidate
resumes are then sent to HHSC for review and interview scheduling.
Nurses must apply in order to be considered for this position. The
HSCS is comprised of nine hospitals located throughout the state,
and one youth residential psychiatric center in Waco. The HSCS is a
hub of excellence for forensic mental health and complex
psychiatric care, with all facilities accredited by The Joint
Commission. The hospitals provide state-of-the-art treatment that
is recovery-oriented and science-based. Whether in a direct-care or

of a Texan.Reports to: Nurse ManagerPrinciple
Accountabilities:Attends work on a regular basis and may be
required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a
rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance
with agency leave policy and performs other duties as
assigned.Transcribes physician's orders, prepares and administers
medications based on developmental and age specific population
needs according to acceptable standards, hospital policies and
procedures within the parameters of their educational preparation.
Performs focused nursing assessment for the basic care, treatment
and general welfare of patients. This may include assisting with
sick call, medical emergencies, providing/monitoring treatments and
procedures, performing screening tests, collecting specimens for
laboratory examination, scheduling appointments/consultations etc.
Documents basic information concerning patient behavior, medication
administration, treatments, physical condition, changes in
mental/physical condition, education provided, etc. according to
hospital policy and procedures. Observes and reports significant
observations related to patient's mental/physical condition to the
supervising RN and/or other team members as appropriate to promote
quality patient care. Maintains accountability for medications,
assigned medication room and the security of assigned unit keys.
Provides basic patient/family education to individuals or groups as
appropriate to increase patient knowledge of medications,
health/hygiene skills and disease management/prevention etc. to
promote independent living skills. Serves as an effective member of
the treatment team, implements basic nursing care plan, engages
patients in therapeutic interactions and supports unit
milieu/programs to assist patients in meeting individual goals.
Demonstrates a commitment to a culture that reduces risk to both
patients and staff through support of the hospital's safety and
risk management plans, infection control programs and restraint &
seclusion reduction strategies. Is educationally prepared to
deliver nursing care to state hospital patients, completes required
training and demonstrates competencies as required. Assumes
responsibility for patient care and management of the unit in the
absence of the RN or LVN III with RN support via telephone and
immediate on-site availability as needed. Other duties as assigned
include but are not limited to actively participating and/or
serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for
disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations
(COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate
shift pattern assignment and/or location.Qualifications:Current
unrestricted license to practice as a licensed vocational nurse in
the State of Texas.A minimum of one-year of full-time experience
providing services as an independent licensed vocational nurse in
an in-patient environment.Applicants must pass a fingerprint
criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry
checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS),
Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, Employee Misconduct, and HHS OIG List
of Excluded Individuals / Entities. All state supported living
center employees are subject to random drug testing.Flexibility in
work hours may be required for this position. The position may be
required to work overtime and/or extended hours. All applicants
must be at least 18 years of age to be considered for employment at
a state-operated facility.Other Qualifications:Shall be a United
States CitizenShall not have been convicted of a felonyShall be
able to read, write, and speak EnglishShall be able to operate a
personal computer utilizing Microsoft applications, such as
Explorer, Outlook, Word, Excel, etc. so as to efficiently create
and/or utilize an Electronic Medical RecordExperience:1+ years of
full-time experience providing services as an independent licensed
vocational nurse in an in-patient environment.Physical
Requirements:Must be able to stand or sit for more than 8 hours per
dayMust be willing to work overtime if necessaryMust be able to use
an elevator or walk up and down stairsMust be able to lift up to 40
pounds and carry up to 10 feetMust be able to routinely grasp or
handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach
above and below shouldersMust be able to read and interpret
handwritten and typewritten printMust be able to communicate by
voice and detect sound by earMust be able to perform duties in an
indoor or outdoor environmentMust be able to pass a criminal
background investigationMust undergo urine drug
