Regional Director (Waco/Bryan)

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to: Vice President of Communication

Salary: $60,000

Location: Waco or Bryan, TX

Summary

Are you looking for an opportunity to work for a reputable company with a positive work environment? Better Business Bureau is looking for a Regional Director to join the team. As a Regional Director, you will be tasked with maintaining and further building the BBB brand visibility and reputation. This individual will be critical to further positioning BBB as a leader in advancing marketplace trust and showcasing the organizations brand, success, appeal, and culture. In this important and highly visible position, our ideal candidate demonstrates an outgoing personality and has no reservations when it comes to public speaking. He or she is experienced in working in front of and behind the camera and has a solid working knowledge of newsrooms and reporters. An ideal candidate is highly proactive, self-motivated and a fast learner who can easily pick up company- and industry-speak. Most importantly, the candidate should be someone who can think strategically as part of the overall communications team but who is just as happy rolling up their sleeves to get quality work done quickly, efficiently, and independently.

Role Related Responsibilities

  • Serve as the principal on-camera BBB spokesperson in all assigned media markets.
  • Maintain effective public relations, education, community outreach programs, and relationship management in assigned media markets.
  • Execute public relations internal and external programs and policies, maintaining employee, public, and shareholder interest and acceptance.
  • Maintain regular contact with the local advisory committee and BBB board members and other local community leaders. Develop relationships for and make recommendations for future BBB Board members.
  • Maintain appropriate relationships with government agencies, associations, local industry groups, and the media to further the objectives and enhance the image of BBB. Oversee effective public relations, community outreach programs, and promotion of such programs, including regional activities.
  • Implement and make recommendations for outreach programs. Communicate regularly with BBB staff and alert them to timely, relevant local issues and trends to create newsworthy releases of particular interest to the local communities.
  • Speak to local industry, consumer, and business groups on a variety of topics

    Knowledge, Skills, And Qualifications
    • Ability to make decisions in accordance with short and long-term planning
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Excellent human relations skills; ability to deal with human diversity
    • Existing media relationships and ability to build new relationships with news reporters, producers, and similar positions in various mediums.
    • Strong news sense and understanding of what it takes to generate impactful media coverage. Proven track record of giving on-camera interviews, radio interviews, and newspaper article quotes to spread positive messages on behalf of an organization
    • High moral character and personal integrity
    • Sound judgment and the ability to be objective
    • Professionalism
    • Creativity and flexibility
    • Personal presence and poise to be able to represent the BBB brand internally and externally appropriately
    • Highly proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbally (in person and via phone) and in writing
    • High level of interpersonal skills and ability to handle sensitive information and documents with confidentiality

      Education And Experience
      • Bachelors Degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Business, or related field of study
      • 4+ years of proven track record in media and outreach experience, primarily with a focus on consumer and business relationships
      • Equivalent combination of education and/or experience
      • Strong expertise in media relations and securing award and speaking opportunities.
      • Must be comfortable networking, speaking in front of large groups, and proactively building meaningful relationships related to furthering BBBs mission and strategic goals.
