design activities for steel pipe and fittings projects from concept
through fabrication and delivery. This role focuses on producing
accurate engineering drawings, calculations, and technical
documentation that meet project requirements, applicable codes, and
internal standards. The Design Engineer works closely with Project
Management Engineers, Production, Quality, Scheduling, and
Procurement to ensure designs are released on time, are
manufacturable, and support safe, cost-effective, and high-quality
production. This position plays a key role in supporting project
delivery, resolving technical issues, and contributing to
continuous improvement of engineering processes. Key
Responsibilities Design & Engineering Execution Develop engineering
designs, drawings, and layouts for steel pipe and fittings
projects. Prepare complete design packages including drawings,
calculations, bills of material, and technical documentation.
Ensure designs comply with project specifications, customer
requirements, and applicable codes and standards (AWWA, ASME, AWS,
ASTM, etc.). Perform engineering calculations and design checks to
validate structural integrity, fit-up, and manufacturability.
Revise and update designs based on internal reviews, customer
comments, and field or fabrication feedback. Drawing &
Documentation Management Produce accurate AutoCAD drawings and
design files in accordance with internal drafting standards.
Maintain proper version control and timely release of drawings to
support production schedules. Support organization and maintenance
of the engineering drawing library. Ensure engineering
documentation is complete, clear, and suitable for fabrication and
inspection. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with
Project Management Engineers to support project schedules,
submittals, and customer deliverables. Coordinate with Production
and Quality teams to ensure designs are fabrication-ready at first
release. Support Procurement by providing technical input on
materials, components, and specifications. Respond to shop and
field questions, providing timely technical clarification and
support. Project Support & Issue Resolution Support multiple steel
pipe projects simultaneously under guidance of the Design Manager
or Engineering leadership. Assist with identifying design risks,
constraints, or conflicts early in the project lifecycle. Support
fabrication, inspection, and delivery by resolving technical issues
as they arise. Participate in internal and customer design reviews
as required. Quality & Continuous Improvement Ensure all
engineering work complies with internal quality policies and
external regulatory requirements. Support nonconformance
investigations by providing engineering input and corrective design
actions. Participate in design reviews and lessons-learned
discussions. Contribute to standardization of steel pipe and
fittings designs to improve quality and reduce cycle time. Identify
opportunities to improve design workflows, tools, and engineering
efficiency. Education & Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree
in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural
Engineering, or a related field. 3–7 years of experience in steel
pipe design, pipeline engineering, structural steel design, or
fabrication-related engineering. Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and
related engineering design tools. Experience producing engineering
drawings and calculations for industrial or steel fabrication
projects. Familiarity with manufacturing and fabrication processes
for steel products. Experience working in a cross-functional,
project-based environment. Professional Engineer (PE) license or
ability to obtain licensure preferred. Key Competencies Technical
