As a Fiber Tech, you play a crucial role in the installation and
maintenance of fiber optic networks. You are responsible for
various tasks, including building, prepping, and splicing fiber.
Additionally, you’re responsible for interpreting construction
drawings and understanding design prints\maps, fiber optic splice
schematics and work orders. Your attention to detail, technical
skills, and commitment to safety contributes to the successful
implementation of fiber optic projects and the success of B
Robinson inc. This is an Hourly Non-Exempt position that reports to
the Fiber Splicing Manager or Construction Manager depending on the
area assigned. Requirements: Basic Requirements: Maintain a valid
driver's license. Responsible for turning in deliverables and
production reports on a daily basis. Must set up and maintain a
safe working environment, adhering to proper personal protective
equipment (PPE) guidelines. Punctuality; Arrive at work on time
every day limiting unexcused absences. Responsible for maintaining,
cleaning and organizing work area, truck, equipment, tools and
office location. Excellent teamwork skills, including the ability
to collaborate effectively with coworkers, vendors, and customers.
Time management skills are crucial to ensure efficient use of
working hours. Timely completion of required documentation
Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication
skills to collaborate with team members and communicate technical
information clearly. Key Responsibilities and Expectation: Below is
an outline of the skills required for all Fiber Technician
positions. Responsible for consistently meeting all customer
requirements for workmanship quality, project completion
timeliness, and project documentation. Responsible for establishing
and maintaining an effective and positive relationship with
customers and team members at all times. Responsible for presenting
a positive and professional image for the company in all dealings
with customers, vendors, employees, and the community. Maintains a
well-groomed, professional appearance appropriate for the position
and business environment. Responsible for protecting the assets of
the company and making prudent decisions to mitigate any and all
risks that threaten the assets; this includes but is not limited to
the security of all company equipment, vehicles, tools, and
materials both at all job sites and at the company’s
office/warehouse. Responsible for adherence to company and Area
rules, policies, and procedures for all assigned customer projects.
Responsible for the quality of your work and personal conduct,
assuring that all company workmanship standards and customer
specifications and requirements have been met. Responsible for
adherence to all safety procedures and rules established for the
company, required by OSHA regulations, and the National Electrical
Safety Code (NESC). Responsible for assuring that all necessary and
required paperwork and documentation is properly, correctly, and
promptly submitted both for internal company recordkeeping and for
documentation required by customers. This includes, but is not
limited to: Daily reports of work accomplished by job. Employee
time sheets by job. Receipts for all field purchases. Fuel purchase
receipts. Project documentation such as before, during and after
photos as well as as-builts. Responsible for providing information
for customer invoicing (i.e., number of splices, locations and work
completed, etc.) Responsible for use and care of the company’s
vehicles and all pieces of company construction equipment assigned.
This includes, but is not limited to: Assuring that all vehicles
and pieces of equipment receive appropriate preventative
maintenance at the required intervals. Assuring that all vehicles
and equipment are visually inspected on a weekly basis for any
damage and/or deficiencies. Reporting any possible issues to the
leadership team Assuring tools and test equipment is properly
maintained and safely stored. Responsible for being available 24/7
during scheduled on call rotation. Demonstrate flexibility in
working hours and availability, as needed, to accommodate project
demands, urgent tasks, and support for team members during peak
periods or as the needs of the business dictates. FT1-FT4 key
performance indicators: Below is a breakout of specific skills by
Fiber Technician level 1-4. Each level is expected to learn, grown
and develop their skills in order to have the possibility of
progressing within their roles and career with B Robinson inc/
Employees must have demonstrated proficiency in all aspects of
their current role and the next fiber tech level requirement with a
minimum of 6 months-1 year experience in their current Fiber Tech 4
role requires an open position. Physical Stamina: Ability to
perform physically demanding tasks, including working in confined
spaces, climbing ladders, and lifting heavy objects. Ability to
safely utilize bucket trucks and aerial lifts. Attention to Detail:
Keen eye for detail and the ability to perform precise splicing and
testing procedures. Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills
to identify and resolve issues related to fiber optic connections.
Building and splicing to specified design: Build, prep and splice
enclosures for projects as assigned. Ability to interpret
construction drawings accurately. Fiber Optic Splicing: Proficient
in performing various fiber optic splicing techniques, including
fusion splicing, mechanical splicing, and ribbon splicing. Fiber
Optic Cable Preparation: Knowledge of cable stripping, cleaning,
and preparing fiber optic cables for splicing up to 864 ct fibers.
Fiber Optic Network Knowledge: Understanding of fiber optic network
architectures, components, and transmission systems. Knowledge of
Industry Standards: Familiarity with industry standards and
proficient in performing various fiber optic splicing techniques,
including fusion splicing, mechanical splicing, and ribbon
splicing. Teamwork: Collaborate, assist and communicate with:
Engineers and/or OSP Project Managers to perform fusion splicing as
directed. Project Manager and Team Leader on workload status to
meet designated goals. Maintain positive attitude and strong work
ethic that can provide high productivity with minimal supervision.
Understands Safety requirements and proper traffic control
procedures. Manage multiple projects at one time. Other Duties as
may be assigned. FT2-FT4: in addition to all responsibilities of a
FT1 Fiber Optic Testing: proficient with optical time-domain
reflectometers (OTDR) and other testing equipment to measure fiber
optic signal loss, reflectance, and attenuation. Fiber Optic
Troubleshooting: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues related
to fiber optic connections, signal loss, and connectivity in both
new and existing enclosures, nodes, and passive equipment.
Documentation and Reporting: Ability to accurately document
splicing activities, test results, and create detailed reports that
accurately reflect work completed while adhering to partner company
standards and practices for uploading documentation. FT3-FT4: in
addition to all responsibilities of a FT1-FT2 Trusted to work
complex projects on backbone or transport active networks.
Overnight maintenance window work Completes redlines and as-built
documentation for manager review. Assists Fiber team leadership
with training and development of team members. FT4: in addition to
all responsibilities of a FT1-FT3 Print documents for other
splicers (cut sheets, SSD’s, CX drawings, etc.) ability to close
out gigs via core, post documentation to the drive (GPON, SSD,
close out etc.)
